Popsicles in the Playground - Building Connections

Cariboo-Chilcotin Partners for Literacy Society (CCPL) is thrilled to have taken part in a pilot session of Popsicles in the Playground, a new kindergarten transition event aimed at building connections and easing nerves for students and parents alike.

CCPL Family Literacy Facilitator Tara Flanagan teamed up with 150 Mile Elementary for the late August event, which included an ice-breaker game, a chance for questions and socializing, a special new book for all kindergartners and of course – popsicles!

“It’s super important to have that parent-teacher-principal relationship within the school,” Flanagan said. “It was a great collaboration for the new kindergarteners and their parents to come to the school playground, meet their teachers, the principal and their new friends and ask questions. It really helps ease the nervousness and uncertainty from both the children and parents.”

CCPL looks forward to expanding the kindergarten transition program into other School District 27 schools for next year’s group of new students.
