NAGHTANEQED SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

In keeping with traditional values, each student as Xeni Gwet’in will be provided with high academic curriculum in order to achieve success and develop the skills to make positive life choices.

Naghtaneqed Elementary Junior Secondary School is located in Nemiah Valley, approximately 3 hours southwest from Williams Lake. We enroll about 20 students of Chilcotin First Nations ancestry in Kindergarten to Grade 10. We have two divisions in the school, K-Gr. 4 and Gr. 5-Gr. 10. Secondary students in Grades 8, 9 and 10 are taught the 4 academic core courses, English, Math, Science and Social Studies through SD #27’s On-line Rural Secondary Program.   Chilcotin Language is taught as the second language credit and there is a strong focus on integrating cultural teachings and activities throughout the curriculum. We host an annual Cultural Week in May which is a highlight for all the students, staff and visitors. The students spend each day learning how to do traditional activities with community volunteers and elders. We host a culture celebration feast that same week which brings everyone in the community together.
